SELF BOAT RENTING REQUIREMENTS
Most people know that if you’re visiting Florida, it’s not a real vacation without exploring and enjoying the best it has to offer by water! From the crystal blue waters, to the exotic fish and wildlife, exploring Florida by water is second to none. The most important part of seeing Florida by boat is safety, not only the safety of you and your friends or family, but also the safety of everyone else on the water. And while you don’t need a license to rent a boat in Florida, you do need to know boating safety rules and regulations.
If you are renting and planning to operate a boat and you were born after January 1, 1988, you need to have a Boating Safety Education Identification Card
The Florida Wildlife Commission gives you this card after you complete a boating safety course. The course is geared to keeping you and other boaters safe while operating a boat in Florida. The course also teaches you the fundamentals of operating a boat so that you and your passengers have the best time possible boating, while also ensuring that you, your passengers, and other boaters are safe.
What if I’m not a resident of Florida but I want to rent and operate a boat?
As long as you can prove that you’re qualified to operate a boating safely by showing us proof that you’ve completed a boating safety course in another state, you can rent and operate a boat in Florida. Safety is the state’s top concern and as long as you’ve taken and passed a course similar to the state of Florida’s, you’re all set.
