Our start times until April are 12 pm and 3:30 pm

Nomad, a proven offshore voyaging vessel, is ready for your next sailing adventure on the Monterey Bay, or beyond. Outings include, but are not limited to, sunset sails, whale/wildlife cruises, sailing instruction, and team building. Your captain, Brian Thom, holds a USCG 100 Ton license with Sailing Endorsement. Nomad is fully insured for charter work with up to 6 passengers.

Nomad is operated by 3 fantastic captains.

Brian Thom, owner, along with his wife Megan, lived aboard and day-sailed their 29 foot Ericson for the first five years of their marriage. Brian already had extensive sailing experience and Megan had none before their marriage. Then they bought Nomad, updated him and in 2007, set off down the coast of Mexico and Central America. They crossed the Pacific and arrived in New Zealand in November of 2009. Now, Nomad Charters brings experience from adventures in the South Pacific back home to the Monterey Bay.

Krista Swedberg is a Santa Cruz native who grew up on and around sailboats. She has an international mate’s certificate and has spent several years as crew aboard tall ships, with destinations such as the Antarctic, Canary Islands, the Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, etc. Remember to ask her about her adventures next time you are aboard.

Helen Christianson grew up in Santa Cruz and has spent her whole life on or around the ocean. She has a degree in Environmental Science from UC Santa Barbara and has spent many years as an educator and naturalist on and off the water. Helen has a wealth of knowledge about marine life and ecosystems.

Nomad has a classic look, with a great bowsprit for viewing wildlife, an ample foredeck for lounging, an aft deck with a great view, and plenty of space under the dodger for spreading out your snacks while under way.

Although Nomad's pedigree is of world cruising, he has a luxurious side including complete, stocked galley, beautiful teak interior.

We'll work with you to create your ultimate outing. Here is an example itinerary to get your blood flowing:

Example itinerary: Santa Cruz.

3:30 pm- Captain arrives at the boat. Review Pre-Cruise safety and sail plan.

3:50 pm- Raising mainsail in the channel and passing Santa Cruz Harbor's outer limit at Walton Light house. Entering the Monterey Bay. Engine shut down, unfurl head sail, and slip past the otter housing kelp beds towards Santa Cruz Point Lighthouse AKA The Lane via open water.

6:00 pm- Sunset, perfectly timed with harbor re entry.

Times vary depending on whether you choose the 2-hour or 3 hour sail. Also depends on whether you would like to be out in the morning, afternoon, or evening.
